Investigating the Effect of Ownership Structure on Corporate Social Responsibility Disclosure: Meta-Analysis Study

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to systematically review the impact of ownership structure on corporate social responsibility (CSR) disclosure using a meta-analysis approach. To this end, the research used domestic journals approved by the Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology, as well as international journals indexed in JCR and Scopus. Based on the meta-analysis protocol and after removing unrelated articles, 55 studies were selected: 12 Iranian studies published until 2021 and 43 international studies from 2002 to 2021.
The Lipsey and Wilson method was applied to analyze the data. Cochran’s Q test and the I² statistic were used to examine the heterogeneity among the studies. If the p-value in the heterogeneity test is less than 0.05, a random effects model is applied. Therefore, this model was applied to most of the study’s variables.
The findings show that government ownership, foreign ownership, and long-term institutional ownership positively influence CSR disclosure. In contrast, ownership concentration, executive ownership, and short-term institutional ownership have a negative effect. These results help regulators and stakeholders by highlighting key external corporate governance factors that can improve CSR practices.
