Abstract
Purpose: The present study seeks to investigate the relationship between financial distress and increasing divergence of investors' beliefs by considering the role of audit quality of firms.
Methodology: In order to achieve the research objectives, a sample of 134 companies listed in the stock exchange that were selected according to the systematic elimination model was collected for a period of 10 years from 2014 to 2023. To test the research hypotheses, a multivariate linear regression model was used. To measure financial helplessness, Altman's model was used and for the divergence of capital ideasUnexpected trading volumes have been used, and finally the quality of the audit has been demonstrated by the auditor's expertise factor in the industry.
Research findings: The statistical results showed that with the increase of financial distress in companies, the divergence of investors' beliefswill increase. Also, audit quality has a moderating role on the relationship between financial distress and the divergence of investors' opinions. In fact, with the interaction of audit quality and financial distress, the divergence of investors' opinionswill decrease, and with the introduction of audit quality on the main relationship of the research, the positive coefficient will change to negative and inverse coefficient.
Conclusion: The current study provided evidence that financial distress incompaniescan directly affect the differences of beliefs and beliefs in the capital market and turmoil in this field, and the important role of auditors in this relationshipcannot be ignored, which can be a problem in this field, which has not been addressed in the country.
